Chantilly’s Hippodrome

Chantilly is certainly one of the world’s most beautiful sites dedicated to the thoroughbred.

The Hippodrome, created in 1834, skirting the forest, built facing the Grand Stables and only a few hundred meters from the Château's gates. It is in itself a marvellous decor.

The race season starts in April and on the first Sunday of May with the Hocquart Trophy...

Every year, in June, Chantilly takes on an international dimension :
During the first week-end of June with high level races :
- on Saturday, a race with the Gros Chene Trophy, a competition in which 3 year colts and fillies race against their elders,
- on Sunday, the very famous Jockey Club Trophy, " the French Derby", created in 1836, which consecrates the best colt of the 3 year old generation.

The 2nd Sunday in June, Chantilly greets “l’élégance” for the Prix de Diane, created in 1834, a true championship crowning the best 3 year old filly.

Besides these prestigious days, from April to October weekly races allow to appreciate the races in these wooded surroundings.

The training centre

The origin of Chantilly's vocation is the quality of the ground, particularly favourable to the fragile legs of these thoroughbreds.
Today throughout the agglomeration (Chantilly, Gouvieux, Lamorlaye, Coye-la-Foret, Avilly St Leonard) a 100 professionals train 2 500 horses, all "thoroughbreds".

The training of thoroughbreds is the prime activity in the region. All categories taken into consideration, it provides for more than 2 000 jobs, and primarily to the 1 000 lads who ride the horses daily on the different grounds and who care for them in the stables or accompany them to the races.

Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly

The Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly is now the biggest Polo Club in France.

In 1999, it was entrusted by the International Polo Federation the organisation of three major events : the Ambassadors' Cup, the European Championship and the 2004World Championship.
